Architects, designers and now clients themselves are placing a great emphasis on eco-friendly, sustainable materials in building projects. For countertops, people need look no further now than with Formica Brand surfaces as the company announces a new set of sustainability initiatives with a goal to become carbon neutral by 2030.
While Formica Corp. has always prioritized sustainable practices, the company’s 2019 acquisition by Netherlands-based Broadview Holdings has certainly helped accelerate its progress. Broadview itself is a sustainability leader in the decorative materials market, with each member of its group, including Formica Corporation pursuing ambitious, ecologically sustainable initiatives.
Promoting Sustainability, Maintaining Transparency
As part of its goal to achieve net carbon neutrality by 2030, Formica Corp. aims for a midpoint benchmark of a 25% reduction of CO2 emissions and 10% reduction in primary energy demand by 2026. In addition, the company will pursue a 5% reduction of its water footprint in the next five years.
Alongside this, Formica Corp. has elected to offer full transparency to consumers by publishing its environmental impact data every year with its targets and initiatives for the coming year.
“Consumers are seeking surfacing options that are better for the planet, and we are laying out a clear and aggressive action plan to meet their expectations,” said Mitch Quint, president of Formica Corp. North America. “We look forward to providing updates on our progress as we continue to reduce the environmental impact of our product and processes.”
In addition to its long-term corporate goals, Formica Corporation also engages in extensive sample recycling programs, as well as multiple third-party certifications to further drive sustainability at all levels of its production process. As part of the final stage of their approach to always do better, Formica Corporation has also said they are continually researching new technology and processes to achieve their goals while delivering on expectations.
