Designed as a blueprint for technological and architectural innovation, Vegas Modern 001 (VM001) is a 15,000-square-foot smart residential experience center brought to life by Vegas-based design firm Blue Heron, local technology integrator Eagle Sentry and control system manufacturer Savant.
The unique team-up of design and technology teams helps preserve the architecture and the views as the home overlooks the Las Vegas strip, while also greatly contributing to occupant wellbeing. The result is an impressive, luxury environment centered on the architecture, the city and the natural environment that creeps into the home. At every turn, Blue Heron sought to bring the natural world indoors to create biophilic spaces that improve mental and physical wellbeing, with elements like water, fire, light, plants and native rocks being used to enhance these connections. This, in part, meant neatly concealing the incredible array of smart home technologies using 7-inch troughs that run along the outside walls, allowing for smooth, clean lines that house everything.
“When we say ‘biophilic’ we refer to the way that natural elements are integrated into the design,” says Tyler Jones, CEO and founder of Blue Heron. “There’s water on three sides of the great room, and you can hear it and feel the humidity. Plant life is literally coming into your living space.”
The lighting system uses four hundred and fifty separate fixtures paired with motorized window treatments on a control system powered by Savant. Together, the trio create a fully functioning circadian lighting system that floods the rooms with natural sunlight during the day, while easing occupants into a restful sleep at night.
The home also boasts the largest residential solar array in the region, a fully automated power panel and Savant’s microgrid technology designed to make it extremely sustainable to operate. The energy solutions paired with the vast solar infrastructure can maintain operation of the entire home for up to eight hours, or 24 if only essential devices are active. The microgrid works day and night to optimize the consumption of power under all conditions, providing a comfortable, secure environment that maximizes efficiency and reduces energy costs.
