Bedrooms can simply be a place to rest after a long day, but the owners of this master suite envisioned it to be so much more. Viewed as the jewel of their waterfront home, the couple were willing to invest to ensure the design of the space inspired other activities in the space. Mostly, they wanted the space to evoke the look and feel of a luxurious wellness sanctuary meant to restore and revitalize, no napping required.
A big part of that design objective involved the thoughtful selection and integration of a vast array of smart systems and entertainment elements. Aware of the delicate dance that exists between technology and design, the integration team at Atlantic Control Technologies (ACT) made sure that the smart tech used in the master bedroom operated without compromising the restorative space.
They were extremely successful too, ultimately winning a CE Pro Home of the Year Award for the Best Master Suite.
Hidden Technology Stays Out of Sight for Peace of Mind
Understated, if not completely hidden technology was a primary initiative of the design and installation team, outfitting the entire suite as part of the larger project. This became a significant challenge when coupled with the massive windows that ran throughout the space. What was perfect for natural lighting and rejuvenating views out into nature forced the integration team to get creative with their technology placements.
The homeowner’s health issues also factored heavily into the design of the space. This meant all systems would need to be easily managed and enjoyed from the bed. As part of this, every subsystem was linked under the guidance of a single control system, allowing complete user access to all technologies at play.
The team also got incredibly resourceful, designing a custom-built bedframe that would conceal and reveal a 43-inch LG TV at the whim of the homeowner. Audio accompaniment came as part of a distributed Sonos system layered throughout the suite through architectural, ceiling-recessed Sonance speakers to create a fully immersive audio experience.
LED Lighting and Motorize Shading Offers Peace and Serenity
To supplement the natural lighting already present—and to deliver an extra bit of mood, wellness and comfort—being able to have well-choreographed control over the room’s light fixtures and motorized shading, therefore, was paramount.
For this, the team used a Lutron HomeWorks QS system to unite the hidden shade motors and recessed fixtures, sconces, LED strips around the ceiling cove, and ceiling fans. The owners can then brighten and darken the room to their preferences from the RTI remote or app.
In seconds the room can go from being serene and peaceful, with the shades down, soft music on, and lights at an eye-pleasing level to movie-ready with the TV up and in position at the foot of the bed and the lights off.
The owners of this magnificent master suite needn’t nod off to live the dream of a comfortable, luxurious lifestyle. Within the privacy of their bedroom and adjoining areas, they can create with the single press of a button an environment that inspires wellness and relaxation through human-centric lighting and immersive AV.
