Designers and integrators are already building out the bathroom for a more spa-like experience, so why not deliver a wellness solution in the bathtub itself? Industry leader Kohler is doing exactly that with their all-new Stillness Bath, a $16,000 experiential wellness bathtub that incorporates light, fog and scent into a homeowner’s self-care routine.
A Bathhouse Experience, Right at Home
Drawing inspiration from Japanese forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, a practice that immerses the senses within the calming, healing elements of nature, homeowners can transform their average bath into a spa-like experience that provides a “sanctuary for wellbeing,” using elements like light, fog and aroma to transport themselves to a world of natural serenity.
Uniquely, the Kohler Stillness Bath fills with water from the bottom of the bathtub, with the design planned around overflow. When water floods into the Hinoki wood moat that surrounds the tub, the installation creates a soothing sound akin to the natural flow of water. Additionally, the bath is surrounded by full-spectrum lighting that helps create a chromatherapy experience using human-centric lighting controls.
The experience doesn’t stop there, however. The tub also emits a fog that envelopes the surface of the Stillness Bath. When combined with essential oils, the bath creates a subtle, scented experience that helps “stimulate the senses and promote focus.”
“As we grow our leadership in smart home innovation, our products make it possible for consumers to easily enjoy the advantages of touchless and connected experiences, without adding clutter or complexity to their spaces,” said David Kohler, President and CEO of Kohler Co. “We believe there is a delicate balance when it comes to technology in the home – and will continue pioneering opportunities for seamless control in the bathroom and kitchen with an eye toward gracious living and wellbeing.”
