The Embr Wave 1 (MSRP $299) is a unique device for wellness and temperature regulation all contained in the body of an average smart watch. Whether used as an all-day companion or at key situations, the Wave 1 offers comfort and relief through its modulation temperature.
The science behind the device lies in how the body’s innate response to temperature sensations on skin and thermal signal pathways travel to the brain. This way, cooling or warming one little spot on the inner wrist can change how the body feels overall, without affecting your core body temperature.
Much like how a warm bath or a splash of cool water can help bodies feel better, the Wave’s heating or cooling action sends a comfort signal to the area of your brain associated with emotion, stress, thermoregulation, and pleasure.
By using a thermoelectric heat pump to create these series of sensations, the Wave allows users to control temperature level themselves and even set the duration to last anywhere from 5 – 60 minutes based on needs.
The baseline model runs 2 x 1.5 x 0.5 inches (52 x 39 x 13 millimeters) and fits wrists 5.1-8.2 inches (130-210 mm) in circumference. It comes with a micro-USB charging cable, a quickstart guide and carrying pouch as well as a lithium-ion battery that provides 2-3 days of intermittent use (up to 50 sessions) as reported by the company.
Options for nylon comfort bands and vegan leather bands, as well as a travel case are also available.
