Energy independence is becoming a far more tangible reality as manufacturers push towards greater longevity, control and functionality of their solutions. With the new climate bill spurring greater accessibility to residential energy retrofits, the news coming out of last week’s RE+ tradeshow, like that of SolarEdge Technologies, Inc., are certainly welcome in the world of home energy.
Peter Mathews, North America General Manager of SolarEdge, said: “Smart energy management is becoming crucial as electricity costs continue to escalate and grid outages become more prevalent. There is a growing need for tools and technology that manage solar energy consumption in a smarter and coordinated way. We believe that this will pave the way for energy independence and sustainable living.”
SolarEdge Home Load Controller Manages Heat Pumps, EV Chargers and More
The SolarEdge Home Load Controller is the latest addition to the Solar Edge Home ecosystem and allows for longer and smarter backup control by controlling heavy load home appliances. The design of the wireless device is compact, no bigger than a card deck as the company describes it, which helps make it easier to install.
Once in, the device enables remote and automatic control of appliances like heat pumps, EV chargers, pool and well pumps, HVAC and others. This, the company notes, allows homeowners to increase their solar self-consumption by using excess energy that would otherwise be lost and extend their battery backup time during grid outages.
Homeowners can also manually control the device through an integration on the mySolarEdge App, which turns the smartphone into its own remote load controller. Homeowners can then schedule and track solar energy production, battery storage, grid services (if connected) and solar self-consumption. The SolarEdge Home operating system best calculates energy usage and savings, according to personal preference while considering external factors such as weather events and utility rates.
The Load Controller is available for orders starting October 2022. For more information on SolarEdge Home, the company says to visit www.solaredge.com/solaredge-home.
