EnergyFocus, Inc, a leader in sustainable and human-centric lighting (HCL) technologies and developer of advanced UV-C disinfection products, has been awarded the “Top Product of the Year” award by Environment + Energy Leader for the forthcoming Suncycle autonomous HCL system, powered by EnFocus. The also marks the second year in a row Energy Focus has won the award for its EnFocus platform, according to BusinessWire.
How it Works
As cited by the judges of the award, the second-generation of the EnFocus platform has introduced a variety of new features that continue to innovate and augment the already trailblazing system. An intuitive LCD screen on the switch comes pre-programmed with 10-stage changes in light brightness and color temperature to better acclimate lighting to natural circadian rhythms within the body. An optional occupancy sensing capability significantly and autonomously reduces energy consumption by anywhere from 60-90% over fluorescent or incandescent systems, while the ability to dim lights to 10% further reduces the carbon footprint of the system.
One judge noted, “This product provides great stand-alone lighting controls where the dimming can provide greatly improved energy savings while the ability to change the color can take lighting to the next generation of improving the indoor living environment.”

Using the second-generation EnFocus system with compatible switches and LED fixtures, commercial facilities and residential consumers will be able implement flicker-free, dimmable, color-tunable and autonomous circadian LED lighting, according to the company. By leveraging existing AC wiring for digital communications between switches and fixtures, all that’s needed for the EnFocus system to function is replacing existing wall switches and common types of lighting, such as fluorescent or LED tubes.
The win is a validation of innovation and potential impact of Suncycle™ from the program’s expert judges that consider the EnFocus™ HCL platform a top example of breakthrough work in energy and environmental management.
