Habitas Bacalar will mark the third property run by sustainable hospitality brand Habitas when it opens later this summer. The retreat will stand on the banks of Mexico’s Lake Bacalar and be design by the brand’s in-house team with sustainable materials to create an innovative modular style for the holistic retreat that harkens to the local culture and history while also minimizing its environmental footprint.
The retreat will feature 35 cabanas all bearing earthy, nature-inspired interiors overlooking the adjacent lagoon. The spa and wellness area will be modeled after a small Mayan village, complete with treatment cabins inspired by traditional Mayan straw houses. An open-air kitchen will feature rustic, family-inspired meals, further tapping into the local cultural ties.
“One of the Habitas brand’s greatest strengths lies in the way we tailor our objective to the cultural landscape in which each of our homes are brought to life,” says Habitas founder and CEO Oliver Ripley. “In a case such as Bacalar, this affords us a monumental opportunity to tap into rich histories and bring them into the present.”
Following the opening of this property, Habitas plans to continue its expansion in Saudi Arabia and Costa Rica with additional outposts to come to Mexico in later time.
