Driven by the worldwide demand of today’s seniors for elevated senior housing with integrated healthcare, the newly formed nonprofit Kiawah Life Plan Village Inc. (Kiawah Island, S.C.) purchased a 9-acre site to develop Seafields, the first 62+ luxury continuing care retirement community (CCRC) at Kiawah Island.
Designed by LS3P (Charleston, South Carolina), Seafields at Kiawah Island will house 90 one-, two-, and three-bedroom independent living units as well as 16 assisted living and continuing care services units. The spacious residential units, some as large as 3,000 square feet, will allow residents to transition into a home that still feels sizable but without the upkeep.
The carefully imagined structure will be positioned to capture the full range of light throughout the day, from sunrise to sunset, further connecting Seafields to the surrounding Lowcountry vistas. Generous private verandas offer outdoor living and entertaining options with views of the beautiful landscape no matter where a unit is in the building.
Residences will surround public spaces meant to foster a strong sense of camaraderie among the residents including multiple dining venues, a screening room, library with tech bar, auditorium, communal living room, fitness center, yoga studio, spa, and salon.
A Digital-First Mindset Connects Seniors to Healthy Lifestyles
The CCRC is supported by a digital-first mindset utilizing smart technology to optimize all processes, including an emergency call system, community information via a smart phone application, cable TV, tech support at the tech bar and keyless door entry.
Additionally, the $180 million facility will feature an in-house medical clinic exclusively for residents with telehealth, primary care, dental and physical therapy, operated by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC: Charleston).
In the fall of 2023, the Sea Islands Freestanding Emergency Department, the result of a 5+ year venture between Kiawah Partners and MUSC Health (Charleston), will open within walking distance of Seafields. This facility will provide 24/7 care in its emergency department with trauma rooms, an onsite lab, four exam rooms, imaging technology, and helipad. This facility will be available to Seafields’ residents and the public.
