On par with the finest spas and fitness centers in the world, and set in a private environment, 53 West 53’s Wellness Center is sophisticated, cutting-edge and luxurious. Jean Nouvel, celebrated French architect behind the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Torre Glories tower in Barcelona, brings forward the design of the New York club’s eye-catching interior and nearly 15,000-square-feet of interior space.
53 West 53 is the creation of Singapore-based luxury real estate owner, developer and operator Pontiac Land, known for their iconic properties and mixed-use developments that champion design and world-class hospitality, and Hines, a global leader in international real estate investment and development with active projects in over 240 cities. 53 West 53 offers an elevated living experience for residents with over-the-top amenities and exclusive services.
“When residents enter the Wellness Center, they are transported to a relaxing oasis that evokes luxury at every corner and inspires an overwhelming sense of grounding calmness,” said Samantha Sax, Chief Marketing Officer of Pontiac Land U.S. “Between the unparalleled design and the sheer variety of health and wellness offerings within the 15,000-square-foot, full-floor space, the Wellness Center is a reprieve from daily life and a dedicated venue for self-indulgence and total mind and body wellness.”
Lavish and Luxurious Amenities
Located on the 12th floor, the expansive space includes a full gym, separate high- and low-energy fitness studios, a regulation squash court, golf simulator that lets you play at some of the best golf courses in the world, men’s and women’s saunas and steam rooms and a spa treatment room. Residents will also be able to enjoy a naturally lit 65-foot lap pool, cold plunge pool and hot tub situated between elaborate poolside vertical gardens designed by noted French botanist Patrick Blanc. The gardens themselves use over 3,500 plants giving each garden a rich multi-dimensional texture.
Premier fitness lifestyle brand, The Wright Fit curates and manages the myriad amenities and services. With on-site staff provided by The Wright Fit, the Wellness Center provides a selection of personalized classes and programs for 53 West 53 residents, elevating guest experience through its holistic approach to wellness and service.
“Every aspect of the living experience at 53 West 53 is elevated, and the amenities and level of service available to residents are similar to what you would find at a five-star hotel,” said David Penick, Managing Director at Hines. “There’s something for everyone within the Wellness Center, and we are thrilled to introduce it as the inaugural component of the building’s expansive and impeccably curated amenity program.”
Beautiful, Raw Design
The Wellness Center incorporates a mix of natural finishes and materials sourced from around the world. In the men’s locker room, rich matrix stone greets the eyes while white crystal is featured throughout the women’s locker room. Large swaths of natural materials and flooring throughout The Wellness Center enhance the sense of volume. This in turn compliments the extraordinarily high ceilings that allow in an abundance of natural light and views.
Thierry Despont delivers part of the interior architecture. Known for his iconic work on the Ritz in Paris and Claridge’s in London, Despont creates striking spaces that meld with 53 West 53’s style while maintaining a solitary uniqueness. By playing up the generous scale and elegant proportions of residences and communal spaces throughout, Despont achieved luxurious interiors that feel as intimate and special as they are modern and voluminous.
The exterior is just as impressive. Rising 82 stories, the building’s gracefully tapering design and Nouvel’s signature exposed structural system, known as the diagrid, means that the layout of each residence is completely unique and uninterrupted as it eliminates the need for interior columns.
